Kids Summer Camps

Each summer the Santa Barbara Sailing Center looks forward to hosting our Kids' Sailing Camp and  Stand-up Paddle Boarding/Kayaking camp for girls & boys ages 7-15. Throughout the last 35 years our kids' summer programs have gained a reputation by local adults, too, as the most fun, instructional, and unique camps in Santa Barbara.

Acme & SB Sailing

Kids Summer Sailing Camp

Ages: 7-15, Weekly (Monday-Friday) 1:00pm - 5:00pm
$400.00 per child per session

Our 5:1 student-to-instructor ratio in our Sailing Camp can’t be beat and kids won’t need a wetsuit (since they won’t be flipped into the water on our stable Capri 22’ keelboats). All of our camp instructors have gone through training to create the safest environment for our sailors, and our staff is comprised of lifeguards, US Coast Guard Captains, and certified instructors. Over the course of five days, pre-swim-certified campers will feel more confident at the helm and obtain skills that they will be able to use for the rest of their life. Kids will participate in a fun & safe environment within the Santa Barbara Harbor and out at sea along the Santa Barbara coastline.

Finally, Friday is race day! Where the juniors apply what they've learned during the week (including an afternoon trip on our fifty-foot sailing catamaran the Double Dolphin). They'll have to use their individual and teamwork skills to win!

To ensure a personalized experience, our sailing camp students are placed into groups of no more than 5 per instructor. Each group sets sail on their own 22-foot sailboat with a qualified instructor on board at all times. The 22-foot Capri sailboats are “sloop rigged” keelboats that have been chosen because they are safe, stable, and they don’t tip over!

Our sailing camp includes dock side and on the water instruction. Your child will learn basic sailing techniques, nautical terminology, crew overboard rescue maneuvers, basic knots, and rules of the road. To add a little variety, we also include sailing games and other fun activities such as our ceremonial Friday Water Gun Fight and a Sailing Regatta (Race).

One highlight of the camp includes a quick ride aboard our 50 foot sailing catamaran, The DOUBLE DOLPHIN, which anchors off of East Beach (right near the swim zone) to let the kids have a fun swim near the shore. We make sure that safety is first and foremost, and that they are never in danger during this time.

Clothing & Extras: The best way to prepare for sailing is to dress in layers, that way you are ready for any temperature that develops. We also suggest a back pack to carry extra gear such as a hat, beach towel, lip balm, sunscreen, water, snack and sunglasses. Any type of sneaker will work great, and please do not wear any open toed sandals.

Food: We suggest that you eat a full lunch at least 30 minutes before the start of camp. For campers doing both camps, there will be a supervised lunch break from 12:30pm – 1pm.

Important: The Sailing Camp starts at 1:00 p.m. sharp, so please be on time. Campers will be ready to be picked up at 5:00 p.m. on shore next to The Boat Launch Mini-Mart’s concrete benches. Please, be on time for all drop-offs and pick-ups.

Kids Kayak &
Stand-Up Paddle board Camp

Ages: 7-15, Weekly (Monday-Friday) 8:30am-12:30pm
$400.00 per child per session

In addition to our Kids Summer Sailing Camps, we also offer Stand-up Paddle Boarding and Kayaking Camps that occur in the mornings when conditions on the water are at the calmest. We are proud to offer this exclusive camp which takes a limited amount of participants. For swim-certified campers, our SUP & Kayak Camp focuses on developing basic water & paddling skills, confidence on the water and an appreciation of our local marine environment. Our main goal is to get kids having fun and excited about being on the water!

Each session includes land, water & beach games, paddling practice, snacks, and team building activities. We explore the harbor, nearby sea lion buoys and the kelp forest along Leadbetter beach. The camp is also able to beach our kayaks on the sand "island" for additional activities. Each day, campers will have the option to choose their own single kayak or double kayak, or one of our various levels of stand-up paddle boards.

Kayak / Stand-Up Paddle Board camp allows your child to be master of his or her own vessel. With an instructor to student ratio of no more than 6 to 1, your child can experience the joy of kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding safely, all the while gaining the skills and confidence to finally venture out to sea.

Ocean Scrambler Kayaks & YOLO Stand-Up Paddleboards, some of the best in the industry, are durable and extremely easy to maneuver.

Your child will learn how to safely mount and dismount a kayak or stand-up paddle board (dockside and in the water), basic paddling techniques, rules of the road- to be a “courteous boater”, and how to safely maneuver a kayak or stand-up paddle board in various situations in our harbor and along our coastline.

Clothing & Extras: Wearing a swimsuit and t-shirt is ideal, so be prepared to get wet. You can also bring a back pack to carry extra gear such as a hat, beach towel, lip balm, sunscreen, water, snack, sunglasses and a change of dry clothes. As far as footwear goes, Tevas, Aquasocks, flip-flops or sandals work great.

Food: Please eat breakfast ahead of time. Bring a light snack and water. For campers doing both camps, there will be a supervised lunch break from 12:30pm – 1pm.

Important: The Kayak / Stand-Up Paddle Board Camp starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be on time. Campers will be ready to be picked up at 12:30 p.m. on shore next to The Boat Launch Mini-Mart, unless they are also enrolled in our Sailing camp, which starts at 1:00 p.m. Please be on time for all drop-offs and pick-ups.

Kids Birthday Parties

For a fun and exciting birthday party the kids will never forget, come down to the Santa Barbara Sailing Center for small boat sailing regatta, kayak or stand-up paddleboard outing, or a wonderful coastal cruise aboard the Double Dolphin.

The kids will make up new games and make new friends, as we almost always see dolphins, sea lions and sometimes even whales.
