These award-winning semi-private courses enable you to combine multiple ASA certifications while living aboard a Catalina Yacht, eliminating the need for hotel expenditures. You’ll be learning to sail in paradise, and experiencing the world-famous Channel Islands National Park during your ASA 104 course! Although geared for out-of-towners, locals can take advantage of these privatized lessons as well. Spend from four to eight days living aboard and learning to sail in Santa Barbara, California at the world-famous Channel Islands National Park. During your Liveaboard Instructional Vacation, you’re able to transition from a total novice to a recognized “Bareboat Charterer”, capable of multiple day charters anywhere in the world with you as the captain! One of the unique aspects of this program is that there is a 2 student maximum at each certification level.
This translates into a ton of helm time and attention from your instructor.

With the broad spectrum of sailing conditions available in the Santa Barbara Channel, we are able to accommodate sailors of all levels, teaching them how to sail in a variety of unique and challenging situations. During your Liveaboard Instructional Vacation, you’ll learn basic boating skills, then progress on to more advanced sailing techniques including heavy weather sailing, bow & stern anchoring, electronics and troubleshooting of various boating systems. The pinnacle of your sailing vacation will be a trip to the majestic Channel Islands National Park, where you’ll experience marine life and scenery like nowhere else on earth.

Santa Barbara is known for it pristine beaches, wonderful Mediterranean climate and an amazing array of activities, shops, restaurants and culture. When you’re not on the water learning to sail, you can go explore the town, eat in one of our many fine restaurants, go shopping, hiking or wine tasting, get a massage, or just experience about anything else you can imagine.
The Perfect Place to Learn to Sail!
The Santa Barbara Channel makes for a challenging and beautiful area to learn to sail and cruise. Here it is not uncommon to have winds in excess of 25 to 30 knots with 4-8 foot seas out in the channel while the inner waters, within a couple of miles of the coastline, experience a gentle 10 to 12 knots and 1-2 foot seas. The variety of conditions here teaches you how to handle a boat and be confident in any number of situations and weather patterns.

The average temperature here is about 75 degrees, with plenty of sunshine, and we also have whales that frequent our waters year round. There are almost always dolphins, seals, sea lions and an incredible assortment of marine life too.
